Our Fort Worth and Grapevine ObGyns have extensive experience with Essure permanent birth control
Are you investigating permanent birth control options? Here are the answers to common questions our Fort Worth and Grapevine ObGyns receive about Essure permanent birth control at Women’s Integrated Healthcare, P.A.:
Will I have to have anesthesia for the Essure procedure?
Anesthesia is not required for the procedure, although you can discuss with your Fort Worth or Grapevine ObGyn to decide if it’s necessary.
Is the Essure insertion procedure painful?
Some women report mild discomfort or cramping during or after the procedure – similar to a normal monthly cycle.
How long will the Essure permanent birth control procedure take? What about recovery?
Most women go home within 45 minutes and return to normal activities in less than a day.
Does Essure prevent pregnancy right away?
No – it takes an average of three months after the micro-inserts are placed for your body to prevent sperm from reaching the eggs so that pregnancy cannot occur. During this time, you and your partner will need to continue to use another form of birth control.
Will I still get my period after getting Essure permanent birth control?
You will continue to have a regular menstrual period, but some women who have had the Essure procedure find that their period changes afterward, becoming slightly lighter or heavier. Sometimes these changes happen because you’ve stopped taking a hormone-based birth control, such as the Pill, and are returning to your normal cycle. With Essure permanent birth control, your ovaries continue to release eggs, but they cannot reach the sperm in the fallopian tubes for fertilization. They are absorbed through your body’s normal processes.
